John D. Hill, 76, lifelong resident of Marysville, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, January 11, 2025, at his home.
One of two sons, John was born May 3, 1948, in Columbus to the late Willard G. "Bunker" and Mary "Marty" (Poling) Hill. A 1966 graduate of Marysville High School, he furthered his education at the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Oklahoma. A proud veteran of the United States Army, John served 2 tours in Vietnam as an aviation mechanic before his honorable discharge. During this time, he met and fell in love with a young lady by the name of Judyth L. Ramge. They were married on January 18, 1974, and were just shy of celebrating 51 years of marriage.
A man of faith, John was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marysville. He had an incredible work ethic, working for Siemans for 19 years before beginning his own business as Hill's Water Hauling, and he also worked for Honda. While he loved being a homebody, he actually had an active social side, and spent many days throughout the years having coffee with his "catch up" group, at places such as Hermes, the Lamplighter, Herschels, and more recently McDonalds – even sometimes twice a day.
John had a passion for watching NASCAR and Indy car races, and he loved cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes football team. He enjoyed riding motorcycles in his spare time, and owned several, including his current Harley. Nothing gave him greater joy, however, than being home surrounded by his family, especially any time he was able to spend with his granddaughters – he loved his family very much, and was deeply dedicated to them.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; their children Aaron D. Hill of Marysville and Ann M. (Chris) Hayes of Milford Center; adored granddaughters Ashley, Caitlin, and Allison Hayes; a sister-in-law Margot Hill; brothers-in-law John A. Ramge and Jim (Sharon) Ramge of Kenton; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
Along with his parents, John was also preceded in death by his brother, Willard G. "Jerry" Hill, and a sister-in-law Mona K. Ramge.
Calling hours will be 2-5 pm Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Ingram & Snyder Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville, where funeral services to celebrate John's life will be 11 am Monday, January 20th, 2025, with Rev. Angie Storer officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Union County Honor Guard prior to the start of services on Monday.
John was incredibly honored and proud to be on the first Honor Flight post COVID on Veteran's Day, November 10, 2022. In his memory, contributions may be made to Honor Flight Columbus, PO Box 12036, Columbus, OH 43212, or in care of the funeral home, where contribution cards will be available during service time.
