John Horka Obituary
Jack was born on December 9, 1951, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to the late
John Donald and Mary Elizabeth (Galvin) Horka Sr. He was a graduate of Sault High School with the class of 1970. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. After he left the Air Force, he worked for Horka & Son's Painting with his father, followed by Osborn's gas station, then for the sheriffs dept, and while at the sheriffs dept, he worked for his longtime friend Tom Sibbald at Sibbalds Sales and Service.
Jack continued serving his community as a lieutenant for the Chippewa County Sheriff Department. He spent 25 years in administration and 10 years as a bailiff. He also enjoyed riding for the Chippewa County Posse and working at the Chippewa County Fair.
Jack spent his past time fishing, hunting, watching games shows, Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions and listening to country music.
Jack is survived by his children: Darrell Horka from Arkansas, Shawn (Stephanie) Horka from Grand Rapids, and Laura (Ryan) Anderson of Brighton; three grandchildren: Hunter, Clayton, and Sylas; Jack is also survived by his sister: Kristine Horka-Baldridge of Wisconsin and Vickie (Denny) Liptow of Indiana.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, son: Gary Horka, brother: Paul Horka, and sister: Linda Horka.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Lockhart officiating. Friends may gather from 3:00 PM until the time of services. The burial will be held later at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to Victims Services Unit.
