John Boyd Howard, 71, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026. He was born on May 21, 1954, in Indianapolis to the late George and Inez Howard.

John dedicated his life to construction work, a trade he both respected and excelled in. Known for his strong work ethic, he became a natural mentor on the job—patiently guiding new crew members and generously sharing the skills and knowledge he had gained over a lifetime. His influence helped shape the careers and confidence of many who had the privilege of working alongside him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Inez Howard, his sister Marilyn, and his brother, George Howard.

John is survived by his sisters Barbara and Cindy; his children—sons John, Jr. (Erin), Ricky Howard, Steve Owens and Brandon Owens; and daughters Alanda Randolph and Tara Sparks. He was a proud grandfather to Kiersten (Logan), Logan, Haleigh, Chase, Larry, Brayden, Lindsay, Emily, Gabbi, Kendall, Lyla, Connor, Ricky Jr., and Lane; and a great grandfather to Reese, Izzy, Sunny, and Benson. As well as his very much loved nephews and nieces.

A special acknowledgment goes to, Cindy Howard, whose unwavering dedication, compassion, and care ensured John was lovingly supported throughout his final years. Her commitment brought him comfort, dignity, and peace, and her devotion will forever be remembered by our family.

John will be missed deeply and remembered always for his kindness, and mentorship. As well as his love of good company and moments filled with fun and laughter.
