On August 10, 2025, surrounded by love, John Eugene Hoyt left this world in Philadelphia, the city where his story began on April 24, 1954. A resident of Ridley Park, he was known for his steadfast faith, remarkable handiness, and a humor that made friends out of strangers.
John was the beloved son of the late Porter and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Hoyt. His legacy of love and laughter lives on through his devoted children, Cherylann (Hoyt) Mann and her husband, Robert; Kathryn (Hoyt) McMenamin and her husband, Joseph; and Sara (Hoyt) Dullea and her husband, Robert. His grandchildren, Brielle Marie, Savannah Kathryn, Jacob Christopher, Haley Jade, Cassidy Joan, and Kieran John, will forever cherish the memories of their "Beebop," who could always be counted on for a silly game, or a story.
John shared a special bond with his former spouse and remained a great friend to Cynthia (Phelps) Hoyt. He was a loving brother to Carlton Hoyt and his wife, Mary Anne; Theresa (Hoyt) Goetz and her husband, Russ; Francis Hoyt and his wife, Louise; Margaret (Hoyt) Gunn and her husband, Ed; Fr. Stephen Hoyt; Marie (Hoyt) Germsheid and her husband, Jim; and Dolores (Hoyt) Kituskie and her husband, Leo. He was preceded in death by his brothers Michael, William, and Joseph Hoyt, whose memories he held close to his heart.
John, also known as Wolfie, was a graduate of Upper Darby High School, where he met lifelong friends on Long Lane. He was a master at building and fixing anything that came his way. He dedicated over forty years of his life to his craft as a plumber, working with Aquarian Plumbing and Gray Stone Corp. There was no challenge too great for his skilled hands, whether it was a leaky faucet or a broken-down car. His home was a testament to his craftsmanship, and he took great pride in helping others with their projects.
John was a devout Christian who actively served at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. He contributed his talents to the property committee and lifted spirits with his voice in the choir. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in service and fellowship.
He was a man of many interests and could aptly be described as a jack of all trades. John was a car enthusiast, whether it was fixing them, talking about classic and antique cars, or watching racing events. His passion for cars was only matched by his love for NASCAR, Eagles, and Phillies. His home was often filled with the sounds of cheering during games, laughter, and great conversation.
Those who knew John will remember his fantastic sense of humor. He was a joker at heart, always ready with a witty comment or a playful prank. His laughter was infectious, and he had a unique ability to lighten the mood in any situation.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday from 10 to 11:00am at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 2545 Franklin Ave., Secane, PA 19018. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am in the sanctuary.
John's family and friends will miss his presence immensely, but they take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire them. He has left an indelible mark on the lives he touched, and his memory will be cherished forever. John Eugene Hoyt's journey on earth may have concluded, but his story of love, laughter, and service will be recounted for generations to come.
