Johnny and I went to Reception, Basic training, and AIT together for the Army. He was such an incredible person, and we had a lot in common with a shared point of view on life.
We often would sit on the dryers in the laundry room at basic training (because it was so freezing cold, and one of the warmest places to be) at night doing our laundry, and often have some of the deepest and amazing conversations I have ever had. He was truly my brother, and I loved him dearly. Johnny, wherever you are, you are seriously missed by many my man. We never did get to have a bonfire out in Tennessee together like we talked about, but when we meet again, I know that we will. Love ya buddy, forever and always.

I first met John last year at 120th reception, he quickly became one of my best friends "battle buddies" we ended up at basic training in the same platoon and were initially bunk mates. We went through hell every day and talked about our lives and families every night. I never saw him go a single second without putting in the effort to improve, always running, doing pushups, sit-ups etc. No matter how much I saw him struggle I NEVER saw him quit. Nor did I ever see that big smile leave his face, even when getting "smoked" together. I just wish there was something I could have done for him. Until we meet again Johnny. - PFC MANN
