Early Life
John Henry Jackson Jr. was born on February 8, 1953, in Gordon, Georgia, to the late Willie Mar Burke and John Henry Jackson Sr. He was the eldest of eight children - a role he carried with quiet strength and deep love throughout his life.
He received his education in the Wilkinson County School System. At the age of twelve, he traveled north to stay with his uncle, marking the beginning of his lifelong connection to New Jersey. After spending some time back home in Georgia, Henry returned to New Jersey and made it his permanent home.
Career
Henry began his first job at the Drum and Barrel Steel Company, where he built a reputation for hard work and dependability. He later joined Stop & Shop, where he worked faithfully for 34 years, serving as a night shift manager until his retirement. His dedication, consistency, and kindness earned him the respect and friendship of his coworkers and all who knew him.
Marriage & Family
On July 23, 1977, Henry married the love of his life, Minnie L. McLean. Their love story began long before that special day - full of laughter, friendship, and a bond that only grew stronger with time.
They enjoyed going out together, taking long rides, visiting family, and spending quiet evenings at home filled with music, good food, and laughter. Henry and Minnie were true companions in every sense - supporting one another through life's challenges and celebrating every joy together. Their relationship was built on love, trust, and mutual respect - a shining example to everyone who knew them.
Hobbies & Interests
Henry found joy in cooking, fishing, shooting pool, gambling, and playing cards - pastimes that reflected his love of fun and connection. Whether he was in the kitchen preparing a meal, out on the water with a fishing rod, or gathered around a table with family and friends, Henry brought warmth, humor, and heart to every moment.
Family & Loved Ones
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Mar Burke and John Henry Jackson Sr.; sisters Emma Jean Bass, Sandra Brantley, and Marie Solomon; and half-brothers Jason Jackson and John Jackson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Minnie Jackson; sisters Regina Ingram and Lula Whipple; brothers Carlee (Mary) Jackson and Cornell (Johnnie Mae) Jackson; sister-in-law Mattie McLean; and brothers-in-law Willie McLean and Henry (Helen) McLean.
He also leaves his beloved goddaughters Abbey Evans and Princess Brinkley, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends who will forever remember his kindness and love.
Legacy
Henry will be remembered for his generosity, his willingness to help others, and his unwavering devotion to family. He was a hardworking man who led with strength and left behind a legacy of warmth, love, and care. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Though Henry is no longer with us, his spirit will forever comfort and inspire those who were blessed to know him. His love will remain a light in the hearts of his family and friends - always and forever.
