John Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dillinger Funeral Home - Newport on Feb. 28, 2026.
John D. Johnson, age 81, of Tuckerman, passed away surrounded by his devoted family and friends. Born in Macks, Arkansas on July 22, 1944, to Ruth White Johnson and Melvin Johnson.

John dedicated his career to the lumber industry. He took great pride in his work and in his ability to create and build. He was a devoted soldier who served his country not only in Army National Guard, but as a Marine during the Vietnam War.

His faith was central to his life, and as a dedicated member of the Assembly of God Church.

Beyond his working years, John found peace and happiness in his vegetable garden. He had a knack for building and fixing things. His love for dogs was well known.

John was committed to service, both to his country and his community. As a proud member of the American Legion Lodge, he participated in honoring veterans and supporting local events.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ruth White Johnson and Melvin Johnson; his two brothers, Jerry Johnson and Charles Johnson; and his grandson, Joey Johnson. Their memories lived on in the stories he shared and the lessons he passed down to his family.

John is survived by his loving wife, Debra Johnson, who stood by his side through every challenge and triumph. He leaves behind four sons: Joey Johnson; Kevin Johnson (Kristen) of Clarksville; Stephen Johnson (Lezlie) of Bradford; and Daniel Johnson (Sarah) of Texas, each of whom carry forward his values and legacy. His daughter, Ramona Davis of Newark. John is also survived by his sisters, Gennie Bumpous (Donny) of Possum Grape and Marilyn Guynes (Richard) of Maple Springs.

His family extends far beyond, including a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is fondly remembered by countless friends and neighbors. A special friend, Craig Wilson, shared many adventures and memories together.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Stephen Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Phillip Slaton, Roger Sutterfield, Chris Smiltnieks, and Ron Hutchinson, with Kevin Johnson as honorary pallbearer.

Funeral services to celebrate and honor John's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Tuckerman Faith Assembly of God. Visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Dillinger Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oakland Hill Cemetery. John Johnson will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, and gentle spirit. His legacy of love, faith, and hard work will live on in all those who had the privilege to know him.
