John Wilson Kilgore, born on February 12, 1932, in Birmingham, Alabama, was called home to be with The Lord on November 14, 2025, in Tallassee, Alabama. John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jo, of 64 years; his parents, Fred and Clara Kilgore; his granddaughter, Megan Fiveash; and his brother, Fred Kilgore, Jr.
His memory lives on with his son, Mike (Debbie); daughter, Virginia (Danny); his granddaughter, Diana (Matt); great-granddaughter, Bennett; sister, Kit as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John grew up in Birmingham and continued his education at Auburn University where he obtained his degree in Electrical Engineering. John proudly served in The US Marine Corps. In 1959, John married Jo Owens of Tallassee, Alabama. In 1960, his son, Mike was born and in 1962, his daughter, Virginia was born.
Upon graduating, John worked as an Electrical Engineer for fifteen years with General Electric in Chamblee, Georgia. John worked as Chief Electrical Engineer for Colonial Pipeline in Atlanta, Georgia, for twenty years. John was highly respected by his peers and mentored many.
John belonged to three churches in his lifetime. He grew up and accepted Christ at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He joined Wieuca Road Baptist Church in 1959 where he served in many positions including as the longest active Deacon. In 2023, John moved his membership to First Baptist Church in Tallassee, Alabama. John’s faith was unwavering and, throughout his journey, lead many to accept Christ.
His legacy will carry on. He chose to live a meaningful life with acts of love and service. There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we were to have the services of Community Home Health and Community Hospice Care and his personal caregivers.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 10:00AM until service time at 11:00AM at First Baptist Church of Tallassee, Alabama, with Dr. Trey Waldrop officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Jeffcoat Funeral Home Directing.
