Shirley Ann York, a beloved homemaker and housewife, was born on September 4, 1942, in Ranger, Georgia to Leslie and Lula Mae Carnes. She was sent to her eternal home in Heaven, surrounded by her loving family on November 5, 2025, at the age of 83. Shirley was adored and loved by all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and warmth that will be remembered fondly.

She married the love of her life, William “Bill” York, on April 19, 1958, and together they raised four beautiful children, creating a nurturing and loving home. Shirley's devotion to her family was evident in everything she did, providing support and encouragement to her loved ones throughout their lives.

Shirley is survived by her sons, William David York (Kim) and James Michael York (Eva); daughter, Sherry Lynn Thompson (Ronnie); sisters, Linda Faye Orton (John) and Catherine Gail Paul and brother, Larry O’dell Carnes (Verna). She cherished her role as a grandmother, leaving behind grandchildren, Christina Gunn (Brad), Keeley Michell Dasher, Lauren Taylor (J.T.), Daniell Marie Alexander (Ferinard), William Tyler York (Chelsea), and Chase Douglas York. Additionally, her family includes nine great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William “Bill” York, along with her parents, Leslie Thomas and Lula Mae East Carnes; daughter, Tammy Lee York and her great-granddaughter, Campbell York.

Throughout her life, Shirley enjoyed various hobbies and interests that brought her happiness. She loved to bowl, shop, and plant flowers, as well as watch her beloved Georgia Bulldogs. She also found joy in playing games such as Scrabble, Bunko, and Trouble, often gathering with friends and family for fun-filled evenings.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 10:00AM until service time at 11:00AM, at Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tim Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tallassee, Alabama.

Shirley Ann York's life was a testament to the love she carried for her family and friends. Her gentle spirit and unwavering commitment to her loved ones will be dearly missed, but her memories will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
