John Alan Kilpatrick, a beloved friend in Buncombe County, NC, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on May 13, 1946, in Buncombe County, John embodied a life dedicated to service, hard work, and family.
A graduate of Enka School, John embarked on a career as a machinist, first with American Enka until its closure, and later at Continental Teves, until his retirement. However, it was in his community and his faith that he truly flourished. A devoted member of Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler, he served as a Deacon for 50 years, exemplifying a true servant of God throughout his life.
John's humble spirit and tireless work ethic were admired by all who knew him. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including dahlia gardening and managing his 25-acre farm where he raised cattle and chickens. His beloved companion, a Border Collie, Suzie, was always by his side, sharing in the tranquility of the farm and the warmth of their bond.
Surrounded by his family, John is survived by his cherished wife of 60 years, Ann Howell Kilpatrick. Together they raised two daughters, Laura Kilpatrick of Candler and Amy Hensley, who, along with her husband Joel, brought immeasurable joy to their lives. John took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Jaci Hensley and her husband Cole, Molli Jones and her husband Daniel, Jaxon Hensley, Dalli Fortney and her husband Kain, and Cole Hensley. His great-granddaughter, Magnolia, brought an added light to his golden years.
John's legacy will live on through the hearts of his beloved brothers, Devrow Griffin, Jr. of Candler and J.B. Griffin and his wife June of Phoenix, AZ. Although he leaves behind many who loved him dearly, he was preceded in death by his parents, John Kilpatrick and Mary Taylor Griffin, and his stepfather Devrow Griffin Sr., along with his sisters, Carolyn Fowler, Judy Plemmons, and Joyce Taylor.
A funeral service to honor the legacy of John will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, September 29 at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler with Pastor Mike Leslie officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John Kilpatrick to Ridgeway Baptist Church Men's Ministry at 525 Old US 19/23 Highway, Candler, NC 28715.
