John Steven "Steve" Kimbro, 69, of Nokomis, Illinois, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024, at his home in Nokomis, IL.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Saturday, November 23, 2024, in the Nokomis High School Gymnasium, in Nokomis, IL. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Myron Kirk and Dan Easterday officiating. The committal service and burial will be held at 3:00 PM at Prairie Cemetery, Rural Ramsey, IL. Memorials may be made to Nokomis High School Basketball Program, Montgomery County Cancer Association, and/or Prairie Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Fillmore, IL, is in charge of arrangements. He was born June 27, 1955, in Hillsboro, IL, the son of John Robert & Marian Louise (Worker) Kimbro. He married Susan G. Wollerman on September 1, 1979, in Ramsey, IL. Steve was a retired teacher and basketball coach at Nokomis High school. As the boys basketball coach, he amassed 838 wins which makes him 5th on the all-time Illinois high school basketball coach win list. He was inducted into the IBCA hall of fame. He had four teams appear at the state tournament 1983, 1997, 2008 2nd place finish, and 2013 3rd place finish. He taught woodworking and building trades. He enjoyed carpentry, refurbishing tools and fishing.
He is survived by: Wife - Susan Kimbro; Daughter - Casey Kimbro; Sons - Wade Kimbro and Lucas Kimbro & Caroline; Grandchildren - Kaylee and Claire Kimbro, all of Nokomis, IL; Mother - Marian Kimbro, Fillmore, IL; Brothers - Jim Kimbro, Dawson, IL, Bryan Kimbro & Lori, Fillmore, IL, and Jeff Kimbro & Shellie, Catlin, IL.
Preceded in death by: Father - John Robert Kimbro.
