John Charles Klipfel, 72, of Ormond Beach, FL, died on April 12, 2025, after a long
illness. He was born in Lackawanna, NY on December 9, 1952, to Arthur Jack and
Marion Rose Klipfel. He spent his early years growing up in Hamburg, NY and enjoyed
playing football, skiing and hanging out with his friends. He graduated from Hamburg
High School, class of 1970, where he lettered in football and was an All-State football
player. He graduated from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute, Buffalo, NY in 1972 with
a degree in Graphic Arts. He served in the US Air Force from 1972-1978 and was

worked in several advertising jobs, including that of art director at an ad agency in
Orlando, FL, at the Charlotte Observer in Charlotte, NC, and at the Daytona News
Journal.
John was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church and served on the vestry,
as head usher and as a lay eucharistic minister. He also helped coach his son's soccer
teams in Charlotte, NC and the Ormond Beach Soccer League. He was an avid fan of
all activities in which his children participated and could be seen cheering everyone on
at the Seabreeze cross country and track meets and attending his daughter's chorus
performances and plays. He often designed programs for their various school and
extracurricular endeavors.
John was predeceased by his parents, younger brothers, Gary Scott Klipfel and Michael
Klipfel, and his nephew, Alex Crouch. He is survived by his wife, Patsy, of 34 years; his
son, Trevor, and daughter, Lindsay; his brother, Frank (Laurie); sister, Tina Borsay (Les);
brother-in-law, Gene Crouch (Angie); sisters-in-law, Betty Crouch and Susie Crouch
Swain (Scott); niece, Violet Borsay; nephews, Alex Klipfel (Heidi), Gene Crouch
(Samantha), Andrew Swain, Mark Swain (Bri), and Adam Crouch (Brittany).
John will be remembered for his quick wit, willingness to help others, creativity and his
love for his family.

April 18, 2025

I worked with John for seven years at The News-Journal. He was a creative grapic designer who shared his experience as a co-worker and mentor to all of us in the Special Publications department as we worked as a team to put out countless magazines and special sections.

But, what comes to mind, though, is that John was the first to hug and comfort me when I returned from HR after being laid off just three weeks before my daughter was born. He assured me that I would be ok. It is this moment that I remember his kindness and compassion.

My sincere condolences to John's family.
Sincerely, Carla Eskew
