John Kloosterman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel - Grand Ledge on Feb. 13, 2026.
John Hans Kloosterman, 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Dewitt, MI, on February 11, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Born on June 20, 1949, in Grand Rapids, MI, John's life was marked by his generous spirit, skillful hands, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah Kloosterman, and their remarkable children: Amy (Steve) TerHaar, Lisa Mills, Marisa (Paul) Brinks, Ryan Kloosterman, Beth (Jonathan) Kurt, Laura (Paul) Seamon, and Errin (Rudi) Destics. His legacy continues through his treasured grandchildren: Allison (Jacob), Eric, Ellen, Alyssa, Austin, Samara, Aidan, Kendra, Graysen, Emery, Libby, Reagan, Elise, Julia, Jacob, Cara, Miles, and Remy. He was a loving brother to Nelson (Cindie) Kloosterman, Herm (Pam) Kloosterman, Betty Kloosterman, Grace Driesenga, Rene (David) Smith, Heidi (Craig) Stein, and Peter (Michelle) Kloosterman, along with numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, Hans and Elizabeth (Buikema) Kloosterman, and his adopted mother, Rena (DeJong) Kloosterman.

A graduate of East Christian High School in Grand Rapids, John furthered his education at Calvin College but then went on to follow in his father's footsteps as a builder and handyman. John's craftsmanship was not just his livelihood but his calling.

John's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like napping with his dog Benson, traveling to new places, tending to his garden, quilting, and watching the birds. He had a special talent for implementing design ideas for his wife, Debby, and others-building was not only his profession but his life's delight. John loved the process of problem-solving, and he approached each project with the same care and attention that he devoted to his family and friends.

His commitment to service was evident in his involvement with the Redeemer Food Pantry, where he helped those in need with both his hands and his heart. John's generosity knew no bounds, and his presence was a comfort to all who knew him.

He will be remembered as a man who was not only handy but also generous beyond measure. John's warmth, wisdom, and work ethic left an indelible imprint on the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Redemer United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in loving memory of John Kloosterman.

Yesterday

Thinking of you and your family, Debby, in this time of loss and remembering. May you know God´s comfort, peace and gentleness as He takes you through the next months and longer, one day at a time. God goes before you.
I remember fondly the lively Sunday School discussions at URC & our CMH connections.
With love, Heidi & Bob Sheehan
