John W. Knorr
April 11, 1941 - May 7, 2025
John W. Knorr, 84, of Galloway Twp., NJ, passed away on May 7, 2025, after a long-term illness.
John was a graduate of Bloomsburg University and received his master's degree from Rider. He had a distinguished career of 40+ years of public service in the education field, serving in several roles - teacher, college adjunct professor, and school business administrator. After retiring, he was on the Galloway Board of Education for 21 years, including a term as president. He was also a member of the Galloway Twp. Education Foundation for 20 years, serving as treasurer for several of them. John believed in paying taxes, voting, especially in school board and school district budget elections, giving back to your community, and serving others. He loved his family, the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, telling inappropriate jokes (Monica Lewinsky humor being one of his favorites…), the Three Stooges, reading a "real" newspaper, spending winters in Florida, going on vacation with lifelong friends Ro and Ken, his numerous pets throughout the years (especially his greyhounds who were all given exotic dancer like names), and going to Eagles games (he was a season ticket holder since Franklin Field in 1968). John abhorred injustice and inequality. He believed in DEI long before it was a recognized concept. In the 1990s, he purposely mentored female teachers and teachers of color who aspired to become school principals, business administrators, and superintendents. John saw potential and cultivated it, not because it was the "in" thing to do, but because it was the right thing to do.
John was predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Janet, and his sister, Barb. He was a devoted husband to Susan, his beloved partner since 1965, a proud and inspiring father to Michael (Kristine) and Jill (Doug), a great Pop-Pop to Kara and Jack, and Jill's furry children, and a dependable bother to Tom (Gail). John had numerous sayings – "Money doesn't grow on trees", "Kiss my ***, I'm on vacation", his famous story about the "****-owee Indians", numerous insults aimed at the Dallas Cow"girls", and others that are too colorful to print. Above all, John cherished being a husband, son, brother, father, and Pop-Pop. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, devotion to public service, loyalty, and love that his family will carry forward.
In lieu of flowers, and in memory of John's love for helping children and the community, donations may be made to the Galloway Twp.
