John Koches Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary and Cemetery - Scottsdale on Jan. 9, 2025.
John Koches, 72, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, from his battle with lung cancer. Born on March 30, 1952, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Thomas and Adeline Koches. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, father-in-law, and friend.
He is survived by his five children, one stepchild, ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild, seven siblings, and his former spouse. He was predeceased by three of his siblings, who now join him in peace.
John joined the Air Force on the Buddy Program with his best friend and served honorably in Korea as a security officer. This experience remained a meaningful chapter of his life.
John spent the last decade as an associate at Safeway. Before that, he worked in the landscaping business, a career that reflected his love for the outdoors. Rainy days and tending to his yard brought him great joy, as did baking birthday cakes and making Jell-O for his children and grandchildren-a tradition that brought smiles to countless celebrations.
An avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, you could often find him on his recliner waiting for the next big game. He would often call to say, "You comin' over to watch the game?" He was also a talented self-taught guitarist, learning to play by ear and captivating those around him with his music.
John's wishes were simple and indicative of his love for nature. He asked for his ashes to be spread in the green pines of northern Arizona, a place dear to his heart where his children often walk in the forest and will continue to think of him.
Known for his kindness and easy going nature, he never had a bad word to say about anyone. John had a few favorite phrases that summed up his outlook: "I'm good, it's gooood"
John was a wonderful father, a loving "Papa," a great brother, and a cherished friend. His memory will be carried in their hearts forever.
He will be deeply missed. His family takes comfort knowing he is at peace now, and they can all hear him say, OK fine." We love you, Dad.
Love, all your Goombas.
