Donald John Koches, 78, of Lordstown, went home to be with the Lord Friday afternoon, August 23rd, surrounded by his family, at St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Youngstown. 

He was born February 28, 1946 in Lordstown , the son of Frank and Jesse (Pollock) Koches.

Don was a 1964 graduate of Lordstown High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was employed through the IBEW Local #573 as an electrician, where he served as President for a term. He also drove school bus, served on the board of education, and donated his time and skills to the Lordstown community.

He married the former Margaret Mae Brainard on May 1, 1971. They shared 53 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him.

For many years Don was owner and operator of Kannon Kennels where he touched many lives with the amazing beagles that he bred and shared. He was a Boy Scout leader and avid hunter, and was a member of the Hubbard Conservation Club and the Western Reserve Fish and Game Association. He loved to tinker around in his garage and could fix just about anything. Don was a kind, loving man with a heart of gold who would help anyone in need.

Besides his wife, Don will be lovingly missed by his four children; Brian Sentner and Jason Koches, both of South Carolina, Dawn (Barney) Barnett, of Mineral Ridge,and Aaron (Becky) Koches, of Niles. He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren; Jennifer, Kayla, Kyle E., Joey, Kyle B., Gage, Isabel, Jessica, Audrey, Brett, Jason, Riley, Hailey, and Zac; and five great-grandchildren; Piper, Cameron, Gavin, Amelia, Delilah.

He was preceded in death by his parents an a sister, Alma Jean.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, August 30th, at the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel, 1350 N. Canfield Niles Rd, Mineral Ridge, with Pastor Matt Lowe officiating. 

Friends may call 5 - 7 PM Thursday, August 29th and one hour prior to services from 11:00 AM to noon Friday at the funeral home.

He will be laid to rest in the Lordstown Cemetery.
