John E. Kossuth, Jr., a dedicated electrician and beloved family man, passed away on February 21, 2026, at The University of Kansas Health System Olathe Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas. Born on September 12, 1946, in Liberal, Kansas, John lived a life marked by both hard work and cherished moments with his loved ones.
John spent thirty years as an electrician with Southern Star Natural Gas, a career that he dedicated himself to until his retirement in 2008. He was known for his skill and commitment to those he worked with, providing a stable foundation for his family through his trade.
In his personal life, John shared thirty wonderful years with his wife, Carolyn Bailey, creating countless memories together. John resided in Ulysses, Kansas for a decade before making Ottawa, Kansas his home from 1991 until his passing. John was a proud son of John E. Kossuth, Sr. and Zelma E. (Gilbert) Kossuth, who preceded him in death.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John had a variety of interests that brought joy to his life. He was a passionate HAMM radio operator, affectionately known by his call signal ACOOL. His love for life extended to many hobbies, including playing pool, flying remote control airplanes, and target shooting. Many will also remember him fondly for his enjoyment of cold Coors Light.
John leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, his son Christopher Bailey, and his sister Kay Mclain of Hugoton, Kansas. They will forever keep his memory alive in their hearts, remembering the laughter and love he brought into their lives.
As we honor the legacy of John, we reflect on a life well-lived—a life dedicated to family, friends, and a commitment to his craft that inspired those around him. His presence will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
