John V. Koster, 75, of Escanaba, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 of natural causes.

He was born on June 12, 1950 in Escanaba, son to Victor and Edna (Pepin) Koster. John was raised in Escanaba, their family owning and operating Koster Market. A graduate of Escanaba High School, class of 1968 and then John was immediately drafted in to the Army. After serving in the military for two years, John returned to Escanaba. He worked at Mead Paper for 20+ years, retiring in 2012 as a drum operator in the woodyard.

John loved the outdoors and everything with a motor. He enjoyed golfing, bird hunting, jeep riding, cruising on his motorcycle, and tinkering on vehicles. John was a proud grandpa who enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and their involvement in any activity. When football was on, he didn't want any other distractions while cheering on his team. John also enjoyed his occasional trips to the casino.

Among survivors include his three children, Jeremy (Cara) Koster, John Koster, and Shannon (Matthew) Scheuren; grandchildren, Carter Scheuren, Alexis Scheuren, and Ivy Powers; siblings, Harold (Ann) Koster, Donna (Larry) Leisner, Carol (John) VanBrocklin, and Joanne (Orvis) Valiquette; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marlene Ness.

Military Honors will take place in the spring.
