John Kovac Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Millennium Cremation Service - Vero Beach on Jan. 24, 2026.
John E. Kovac, 85, passed away on December 19, 2025, in Melbourne, Florida. Born on February 12, 1940, in the Bronx, New York, John lived a life marked by service, quiet strength, and deep passions.

John began his career in law enforcement as a transit cop in the Bronx. His dedication and commitment led him to serve in both the 46th and 42nd Precincts before concluding his distinguished career with the Organized Crime Control Bureau (OCCB) Brooklyn North Narcotics division. Throughout his years of service, he earned the respect of colleagues and community members alike for his steadfast presence and unwavering sense of duty.

Before his time in law enforcement, John served in the United States Army beginning in 1955. It was during this time that he took his first-and only-flight on an airplane, a memory that remained with him throughout his life.

Though known for being a man of few words, John's presence spoke volumes. He had a commanding yet calm demeanor that left a lasting impression on those around him. His quiet wisdom and observant nature made him someone people instinctively trusted and respected.

Outside of his professional life, John found joy in simple pleasures and lifelong hobbies. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved the thrill of his Hotrod Challenger and collected baseball cards.

John is survived by his two sons, Christian and John Jr., who carry forward his legacy with strength and pride. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Amber Rose, Wolfgang, Karina, Cassidy, and Stephen.

He was predeceased by his son Damon Lee, and his wife Rosemarie.

John E. Kovac will be remembered as a man whose silence often spoke louder than words-a steady force whose impact will continue to be felt by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and inspiration to those who follow in his footsteps.
