John A. Kroes, 79, passed away at his Ashwaubenon home on December 21, 2023, shortly after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
John graduated from St. Mary's Springs Academy, Fond du Lac, WI in 1962 and then attended the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. John served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1962 – 1975. He was on active duty from early 1967 through 1968 on Adak Island, Alaska.
After moving to Green Bay in 1977, he worked for Built Well Components and Fort Howard Paper Co. Since retiring in 2004, he has been enjoying time with family and friends, especially going "up north" to the cabin that he built near Mountain, WI.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Jo, his two children, Anthony (Tara) Kroes, and Wendy (Bob) Fuller; his six grandchildren, C.J. Thiesfeldt, Jacob, Devon and Derek Fuller, Nick and Noah Vander Loop; his sister, Elizabeth Rowley, brother-in-law, Richard Zangl, and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Zangl and Janice Zangl; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald, brothers-in-law, James Zangl and James Rowley, and parents, Florence and Paul Kroes.
According to his wishes, he was cremated.
His family will receive relatives and friends at Pfotenhauer Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Howard – Suamico Location, 1145 Cardinal Lane, on Thursday, December 28, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. A closing prayer and Military Honors will immediately follow at 4:00 PM.

My sympathies to John's family. John was my boss at Fort Howard Paper Co for many years(he was the best). He knew how much a co-worker and I loved butterfinger candy bars so he would get us the large ones. They were always fresh tasting which we liked. Hugs & Prayers to the family!!
