Mr. Wayne E. Batterman, 97, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
Wayne was born on August 31, 1928, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to Charles and Minna Batterman. He graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac. He was very active in 4-H during high school and received the 1945 Wisconsin Agriculturist and Farmer Award for outstanding 4-H leadership. Wayne received his BS degree in Meat Science from the University of Wisconsin -Madison in 1949. He obtained a Masters in Biochemistry and Meat Science in 1951, also from the University of Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On June 14, 1952, he married Kathryn (Kay) Ruth Isken in Lomira, Wisconsin. They were married for 60 years. He began work with the Hormel Company in 1953 in Austin, MN. Wayne advanced through numerous positions; including food technologist, department management positions, and superintendent of the Hormel plant in Atlanta. He was transferred back to Austin, MN as manager of product and process development in 1972. He retired in 1983 after 30 years with Hormel Company.
Wayne was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Austin, MN; Sola Fide Lutheran Church, Lawrenceville, GA; and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Martinez, GA. He was an active faithful leader and volunteer in church and community activities. He loved helping people and sharing the beautiful roses he grew. He did woodworking and gave many bluebird houses away. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family and loved them very much. He was the best PaPa ever.
Wayne is preceded in death by his wife, Kay. He is survived by a son, Charles Batterman of Evans, GA; daughter, Nancy (David) Majors of Evans, GA; grandchildren; Jennifer (Josh) Nadzak, Christopher (Shannon) Majors, Michael Majors, Ryan Batterman, and Nicholas Batterman; four great grandchildren; Christopher (Alex) Majors, Samuel Majors, Claire Majors, and Andrew Majors; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Olson officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
