John C. Kunkel

John Christian Kunkel, a 43-year resident of Brewster, NY, died peacefully on Friday, August 19th, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 74 years old. Born on March 28, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY, son of Herman and Theresa (Zimmerman) Kunkel. John was a graduate of Bushwick High School in Brooklyn and the Berkley Business School in Long Island. He served in the US Army from 1968 until 1974 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. On February 22, 1970 John married the love of his life and best friend Joanne Victoria Herbst in Middle Village, NY.
John was an Environmental Plumber with Tyree Environmental Technologies in Brewster, NY. John and Joanne enjoyed time spent together on their boat near Cedar Island in Clinton, CT. He also enjoyed reading, cruises and was quite the handyman. Above all, he was a family man.
Besides his wife Joanne of 52 years, John is survived by his 3 daughters; Lisa Kappes and Mike Henry of Holmes, NY, Lauren (Robert) Golinello of Brewster, NY, and Caryn (Scott) Kelly of Yonkers, NY; A brother, Russell Kunkel of Levittown, NY; 5 grandchildren, Frank, Robert and Jack Golinello and Fiona and Rudy Kelly. John will also be forever remembered by his nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 24th 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence O Toole Church in Brewster. There will be a cremation following the funeral mass. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
