John Kyburz, 80, of Des Moines, died Monday, August 4, 2025, in Des Moines following an accidental fall.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2600 East Euclid Avenue, Des Moines. Burial will follow at the Melbourne Memorial Garden Cemetery, Melbourne, Iowa.

Visitation will also take place at the church on August 12, from 10 to 11 a.m., immediately preceding the service.

Memorials may be directed to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or to ChildServe Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 707, Johnston, Iowa 50131 (www.childserve.org). ChildServe partners with families to help children, including John's great niece Bronwyn, with special healthcare needs.

John Albert Kyburz was born August 24, 1944, in Nauvoo, Illinois, to Carl and Marjorie (Newton) Kyburz. He was a 1962 graduate of Nauvoo-Colusa High School and a graduate of United Electronics Institute, West Des Moines.

John honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from May 1965 to January 1969. He was a Maintenance Analytics Technician at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany.

On September 9, 1972, John was united in marriage to Paula Ficken, daughter of Paul and Pearl (Bollenbacher) Ficken, at St. John United Church of Christ, Melbourne.

John was employed as a medical lab courier for LabCorp. He was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church serving as an usher for many years. He enjoyed spending time and traveling with family along with numerous outdoor activities, such as gardening.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Paula; his sons Kenneth (Jody) Kyburz of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, and Jeremy Kyburz of Urbandale, Iowa; a sister, Karla (Edward) Pilkington of Nauvoo, Illinois, and their children.

John was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his father- and mother-in-law.
