Joseph Stankiewicz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Grandview Park Chapel on Nov. 30, 2025.

Joe was a man who lived his life with music in his heart and a smile that never seemed to fade. Born with a natural gift for fixing things, he was always tinkering, building, or working on a new project-his hands were never still, and neither was his passion for creativity. Rock and roll was the soundtrack of his life, and anyone who knew him could feel the joy it brought him.

He spent the majority of his life in Baltimore, Maryland, where he grew up and enjoyed his career at Martin Marietta. About twenty years ago, Joe made Iowa his home, creating a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Joe was preceded in death by his beloved Peggy Karnes; parents, Joseph and Dorothy Stankiewicz; his siblings, Diana Simpkins, Carolyn Blevins and Timothy Stankiewicz and brother-in-law, Thomas VoPava.

Joe is survived by his son, Justin Stankiewicz; his granddaughter, Justine Stankiewicz; his siblings, Kate (Jeri) Hyde, Sandi VoPava, Michael (Kim) Stankiewicz, Richard (Susan) Stankiewicz, and Diane Wilfer; his stepmother, Rose Stankiewicz, and many nieces and nephews.

Joe will be remembered for his warm spirit, the way he could brighten any room, and the kindness he showed to everyone around him. His family will forever hold close the memories of his laughter, his music, and the many ways he shared his love.

A service to honor Joe's life will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 6:00 PM at Cross Creek at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona.
