John C. Lannan

John C. Lannan, 87, of Loogootee, Indiana passed away on Thursday May 15, 2025 in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 13, 1937 in Loogootee, Indiana to Joseph and Mary Leola (Melton) Lanan. He was the last of 14 children.
John married Mary Joanne (Braun) on August 13, 1960. He graduated Salutatorian of the class of 1955 from Montgomery High School. John then continued to further his education graduating from Vincennes University, Indiana State University, and Washington University. After teaching at Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis he was employed until retirement at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Indiana. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, St. Martin Parish, Knights of Columbus, Whitfield Men's Club and Cemetery Association, and Martin County Community Foundation. John enjoyed sports, especially IU basketball. Placing U.S flags on veteran's headstones for Memorial Day was one of his favorite volunteer activities.
He is preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Mary Leola Lannan; his siblings; Catherine Gilley, Donald Lannan, Paul Lannan, Thomas Lannan, Clifford Lannan, Daniel Lannan, William Lannan, Mary Arney, Rose Butler-Arney, Wilma Sinnott, Robert Lannan, James Lannan, and Carolyn Clements.
John is survived by his wife Mary Jo Lannan, their children, Christopher (Manjula) Lannan, Martin Lannan, Keith (Tamera) Lannan, Rebecca (Christopher) Boling, grandchildren, Ryan Lannan, Krystal Boling, Joseph Lannan, Amy (Christian) McNett, great-grandchildren, Montyrell, Trezure, and several nieces, and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 11:00 A.M Monday May 19, 2025 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Whitfield, Indiana. Burial will follow in St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday May 19, 2025 from 9:00 A.M until 10:45 at St. Martin Catholic Church, 520 Whitfield Rd.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Martin Cemetery or Masses in memory of John.
