John Allen Lechlitner, 75, of Middlebury, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at 10:45 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1948, in Elkhart, to James and Helen (Letherman) Lechlitner. On June 2, 1985, in Middlebury, he married Mary Ann Kauffman, she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are sister Connie (Terry) Hill of Elkhart; brother Keith Lechlitner of Elkhart; three sisters-in-law, Verda (Dale) Beachy of Fort Myers, Florida, Kathy (Paul) Culp of Middlebury and Joy (Scott) Graber of Goshen; brother-in-law Rich (Bonnie) Kauffman of White Pigeon, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amber Lechlitner and his parents.
After his time serving in the Army during the Vietnam War, John entered postal services and was a mail carrier for over 30 years. He was a master of puzzles (a love he passed down to his daughter Amber), collecting stamps and coins, and caring for animals. He will be remembered for being a loving and doting husband/father and was dedicated to serving those around him. As a family, we are already missing John so much.
