John Lemoyne Lehew Sr., 80, of Waynesburg, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 19th, 2026, at UPMC Washington, surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on September 25th, 1945, a son of the late John E. Lehew and Betty A. Griggs Lehew. He graduated from Washington High School in 1965 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War after being drafted in May 1966. He was united in marriage in 1967 to Twila L. Piatt, whom he first met while working as a newspaper boy in his youth. What began as a chance meeting along his paper route grew into a lifelong love story.
John had a true passion for driving big trucks and spent many years doing what he loved at various companies throughout his career. He retired from Hartman and Hartman in 2017, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.
John was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest joy came from spending time with family, especially babysitting his great-grandchildren, who filled him with pride and happiness. He was known for keeping his lawn perfectly trimmed and sharp, always ensuring his work looked its best. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage; there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. His hands were almost always busy, and his willingness to assist others with repairs or projects was a reflection of his love. An animal lover at heart, he had a soft spot for pets and all creatures; he was especially devoted to his cherished companion, Jack, his blue-and-gold macaw.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Twila Lee Piatt Lehew; his children, Tammy Ball of Waynesburg, John Lehew Jr. of Washington, and Janie Lehew (Bill White) of Waynesburg; his grandchildren, Roger (Aleita) Lee Ball III, Jonathan (Michelle) Ball, Brianna (Andrew “Sammy”) Boiaroff, Kaylee (Logan) Iams, Dylan (Destiny) Powell, and Shelby Lehew; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Jonathan Ball, Sadie, Baylee, and Brynlee Boiaroff, Eleanor and Amelia Iams, and Greyson and Finley Powell.
He is also survived by his brother, Michael Lehew; his sister, Nancy Loughman; his sisters-in-law, Sally McKahan, Lynn (Frank) Maiello, and Marlene Lehew; his brother-in-law, Jake Piatt; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, David Lehew.
John will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his ability to fix just about anything, his love for his family, and the quiet pride he took in all he did. His legacy lives on in the family he adored and in the countless lives he touched.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, on Friday, February 27, 2026 and Saturday, February 28, 2026, where services will be held Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 5 p.m. with Pastor Tim Lindsay officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by the Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post #175 and the United States Army.
