John Lemon Obituary

John C. Lemon

MENDON - John C. Lemon, a cherished educator, devoted family man, and respected community member, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024 with his family by his side, in Worcester, following a period of declining health. Born on February 3, 1944, in Milford, John's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his loved ones, his passion for teaching, and his infectious sense of humor.

John's journey began as the beloved son of the late Charles W. Lemon and Dorothy E. (Whiting) Tredeau. His formative years in Hopedale laid the foundation for a life characterized by service and education. A proud alumnus of Worcester State University, John's commitment to learning shaped his career and his approach to life.

After bravely serving in the U.S. Army in Germany and in Vietnam, John returned to his roots in education, becoming a valued second-grade teacher for the Town of Bellingham. His love for teaching was evident in every lesson he crafted and every life he touched. John's students fondly remember him as a teacher who could always evoke laughter and curiosity within the classroom walls.

John's heart was truly fulfilled when he married his best friend, Cheryl, with whom he shared 54 beautiful years. Their unwavering partnership was a testament to love, mutual respect, and joy. Together, they raised their daughter, Bonnie Felter, who, along with her companion Jason Bastien, continued to be a source of immense pride and happiness for John.

As a proud grandpa, John's joy was multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Grace and Charlotte Felter. He never missed an opportunity to be involved in their lives and attended every event when his grandchildren participated. He relished the opportunity to play cribbage with Charlotte and watch Grace run. John looked forward to every Friday night, because he knew Grace would be present for a sleep over.

John's interests and talents were many, but perhaps none so remarkable as his incredible vocabulary, which ensured that he never lost a game of Scrabble. His love for gardening brought beauty to his home and community, and his ability to tell a joke or make someone laugh was unparalleled. He possessed a heart for volunteering and a love in serving his community. One of John's cherished memories was a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with his wife and daughter. The experience of Isreal was profound.

An extremely faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Milford, he served on many church committees. John's spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, offering him strength and solace throughout his years. His faith was a guiding light, not only for himself but also for the many lives he touched.

John's legacy is one of laughter, education, and love. He was a man who "blessed with the best" in his daughter, Bonnie, and who saw the beauty in everyday moments. His unwavering presence at family events and his role as a community pillar will be deeply missed.

John is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Lemon; his daughter, Bonnie Felter and her significant other Jason Bastien of Marshfield; his cherished grandchildren, Grace and Charlotte Felter; and the many students, colleagues, friends, and family members whose lives he enriched.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Boston Higashi School, 800 N. Main St., Randolph, MA 02368 or to Whitinsville Christian School, 279 Linwood Ave., Whitinsville, MA 01588.

Being respectful of John's wishes, a funeral service will be private at a later date.
