John LeRay Johnson, 88, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, surrounded by family at The Cedars, McPherson. John LeRay was born on October 29, 1936, in McPherson, KS, the son of Arthur Theodore and Ida Caroline (Nelson) Johnson.
He graduated from McPherson High School in 1954. On December 15, 1957, John LeRay was united in marriage to Patricia “Patty” A. Martinson at the New Gottland Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with three children, Jeff, Jackie, and Jerri. John LeRay and Patty were married for 65 years prior to Patty’s passing on July 6, 2023.
John LeRay was an electrician, working for the family business, Johnson Electric. He had also served in the United States Army and National Guard.
He was a member of New Gottland Covenant Church.
Survivors include three children, Jeff (Karolyn) Johnson of McPherson, KS, Jackie (Charlie) Phillips of Enterprise, KS, and Jerri (Brian) Mackey of Bel Aire, KS; sister, LaDonna Mock of Lakewood, CO; eight grandchildren, Nick (Liz) Johnson, Rebekah (Ransom) Hawthorne, Sarah (Tim) Willis, Cassie (Trevor) Kolinski, Callie (T.J.) Bell, Carlie (Adam) Huser, Allison (Dillon) Flood, and Austin (Maggie) Mackey; 13 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Ida Johnson; wife, Patty Johnson; two brothers, Earl Johnson and Don Johnson; and sister, Helen Hornberger.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 16, at New Gottland Covenant Church with Pastor Daniel Parry officiating.
