It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved brother and friend, John T. Levasseur. John passed away on August 26, 2025, at Lowell General Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. In his final hours, John was surrounded by the love of his family and dearest friends. Born on March 28, 1966, in Lowell, MA, John was educated in the Lowell Public Schools, graduating in the class of 1984. He went on to attend the University of Massachusetts Lowell where he received his degree in Industrial Technology in 1996.
For many years John worked at Phase4 Infrared in Lowell as a Process Engineer and for the past several years at Novotech in Acton. In between his optics career, he worked for Industrial Remediation Services as a remediation technician in various states and on Johnston Atoll in the Pacific.
John was a kind soul with a generous heart and a wicked sense of humor. He lived life to the fullest and marched to the beat of his own drum. John's greatest passion in life was music. He was a natural musician and an avid guitarist and drummer. John was a self-taught musician and spent countless hours playing in various bands with his closest friends. Music calmed his soul. Despite his illness, John continued to play until the very end as it brought him such comfort and peace.
John was predeceased by his parents, Joseph V. Levasseur and Mildred A. (Baxter) Levasseur. He is survived by his brothers, Joseph Levasseur and his wife Sharon of Hampstead NH, James Levasseur and his wife Norma of Lowell MA, and his sister Joanne (Levasseur) McCarron and her husband Timothy of North Chelmsford MA. John leaves behind two nieces, Danielle Gile and Shela Lemieux; and two nephews, James Levasseur and Michael Levasseur. He also leaves behind several close friends and a dear friend, Denise Holt.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the dedicated doctors and staff at the Cancer Center and the Oncology Care Unit at Lowell General Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion shown to John during his illness and in his final days.
You are invited to his visitation Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, Lowell 978-452-6361. His Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home directly after the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in John's name to the Lowell General Cancer Center, Mansfield Building, 295 Varnum Ave 3rd floor, Lowell, MA 01854.
