Charles 'Jack' Farrell, of Lowell, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Lowell General Hospital, at the remarkable age of 101. He was the beloved husband of the late Thelma (Doescher) Farrell, who passed away in 1995, and the devoted longtime companion of Doreen (Boon) McCullough, who preceded him in death in 2019.
Born on January 19, 1924, in Beach Haven, Pennsylvania, Jack was the son of the late Charles and Suzanne (Samuel) Farrell. At the age of two, he moved with his family to Rochester, NY, where he was raised and educated. During the hardships of the Great Depression, the family temporarily left Rochester, returning when conditions improved.
As a young man, Jack found joy in simple pleasures-playing baseball with friends in the warmer months and skating during the winter. Following his high school graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged for his service to his country. Jack dedicated over 40 years of his career to Eastman Kodak, where he worked as a maintenance foreman before retiring in 1982.
After his wife Thelma passed away in 1995, Jack met Doreen, with whom he found companionship and joy. From 1997 until Doreen's passing in 2019, they shared many happy winters together at their home in New Port Richey, Florida, and summers with family in Lowell, Massachusetts.
In the final two years of his long and full life, Jack resided at The Arbors in Dracut. He was a good man, deeply loved and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him. On his 100th birthday, he had the honor of receiving a key to the City of Lowell.
He is survived by his children, Charles J. Farrell, Jr. of Webster, Texas, and Linda Jantzen of Rochester, New York; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Jane Denton of Colorado; and his dear niece, Kathy Schneider, and her husband, Mark, of Rochester, New York. He is also lovingly remembered by Doreen's family, especially Michael and Toni Nolet and their four children and five grandchildren who all affectionately knew him as "Papa Jack."
Jack was predeceased by his brother, James Farrell, and his sister, Patricia Keefer.
In keeping with Jack's wishes, a graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary's Cemetery, located at 90 River Road, Tewksbury, Massachusetts 01876.
Funeral services will be handled through the care of MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, Lowell (978-452-6361).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in his name to The Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
