Former Lake City, Florida resident, John B. Lewis, 97, died on August 6, 2022. Mr. Lewis passed away at Willowbrook Assisted Living Facility in Lake City. The Willowbrook staff, his friend and aide, Ms. Angela Toole, and Vitas Hospice Care were a great comfort to him.
At his request, no service will be held. He will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lake City.
Mr. Lewis was born on January 12, 1925 to Frank and May (Keys) Lewis of Collins, MS. He and his young family resided in Lake City for many years before relocating to the northeast.
Mr. Lewis was a 1950 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. He worked for many years as a research chemist for The US Department of Agriculture in Olustee, Florida where he earned several patents. He later joined the US Treasury Department. After retirement, he and his beloved wife, Dorothy, relocated to Pennsylvania where they resided until her death in 2012. Mr. Lewis was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the North and Southwest Pacific and in the Atlantic. While on leave,he and Dorothy met in New York City and married in 1946. Together they had 5 children. Mr. Lewis enjoyed fishing, country music, gardening and crossword puzzles.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his two daughters, Priscilla Pearson and Sally Lewis-Cocja, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. His sons, Frank Lewis, John Lewis and daughter, Carolyn (Lewis) Lipscomb, preceded him in death.
