John (Bud) R. Luhm passed away on March 25, 2023. John was born in Wautoma, Wisconsin on May 22, 1926 to Reuben and Agnes (King) Luhm. John married Cecelia Skic, Langlade County, in 1953.
John grew up in Wautoma, Wisconsin and graduated high school in 1944. He was inducted into the U.S. Army shortly after graduation. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the European Theatre first with the Third Armored Division and later was a founding member of the U.S. Zone Constabulary. John was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Right up to his death John remained active in the American Legion Post 317.
In 1947 John enrolled in the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree. John was employed for over thirty years with the Wisconsin Division of Corrections, working as a state Probation and Parole Officer and in various correctional facilities in the state. At the time of his retirement in 1989 he held the position of Chief of Security Services for the Division of Corrections in Madison, WI.
John enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially big game hunting in Wyoming and Colorado during his younger years. As he grew older he especially enjoyed hunting with his grandchildren near Wautoma. Like his father, John was a masterful woodworker, his talents ran deep. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will continue to cherish the furniture and other woodworking projects John created for them. John spent many hours outdoors including gardening, cutting and splitting firewood and maintaining a beautiful yard. After retiring John and Cecelia enjoyed being snowbirds and wintering for many years in Texas and Alabama. They also delighted in spending time at home with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife: Cecelia Luhm; children: Michael (Ann) Luhm - Portage, Lynda (Ken) Blomberg - Junction City, Laura (Kevin) Knight - Liberty, UT, Robert Luhm - Milwaukee, and Lisa (Jon) Hibbard - Oshkosh; eight grandchildren: John Luhm, Patrick (Jessica) Luhm, Erik (Sabrina Morano) Blomberg, Karl (Meghan) Blomberg, Katey (Tony) Clements, Nathan (Ashley) Hibbard, Sarah (Alex) Braun and Nicole Luhm; and 20 great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his son Patrick (Abbie) Luhm, his brother James Luhm and his parents Reuben and Agnes Luhm.
As per John’s request, following cremation, a private graveside service and military honors will be held.View All Photos
