John Lukatch Sr.

1928 - 2023

of Yale, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2023. He was born May 29, 1928, in Wilpen, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Mike and Mary (Vlasko) Lukatch. His marriage to Marcia Lovio was May 29, 1965 and they spent 58 fun-filled and loving years together. John served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1946-1948 and was a WWII Marine veteran. When he started civilian life, he went to work for TRW Automotive as a toolmaker, where he spent the next 50 years. When he wasn't working, his hobbies included bowling, golfing, and boating. Whenever he could, John could be found deer hunting or fishing. He was also part of a competitive shooting league. John won over one hundred trophies and medals as an expert with pistols. When John wasn't enjoying the outdoors, he could be found praying at St. Margaret of Scotland Church in St. Claire Shores. He sang with their choir for 33 years. John also sang with Resurrection for 12 years. His beautiful tenor voice would ring out in worship and love. John is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia; son, John "Luke" Andrew (Lisa) Lukatch II; granddaughter, Lila Elaine Lukatch; brother-in-law, John David Lovio; sister-in-law, Mary Elaine (Jerome) Haley; the Ezar family of Pennsylvania; special nephews, Harry II (Kristen Knoblock), Michael (Carol), and Jim (Sue) Porzondek; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Mary (Vlasko) Lukatch; siblings, Mary Lou (Harry) Porzondek, Anna (Richard) Pisarski, and Adam Lukatch; and grandchildren, Lily Lukatch, and Michael Lukatch. The family would like to give a special thank you to John David "JD" Lovio and Mary Elaine Haley for their considerable love and kindness. The family honors the memory of John and invites you to visit and share memories Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. with 9:30 a.m. visiting. Fr. Tom Kuehnemund will officiate.
