John Charles Lundak, Born October 23rd, 1939, in Cresco, Iowa. Passed away at home on hospice on October 1st, 2022 at the age of 82. Preceded in death by parents, Rudolph and Irene; grandson, Connor Holmes. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Joanne Lundak; children, Jeannette (Todd) Peterson, Jodi Lundak, Jill (Travis) Holmes, Julie (Andrew) Foote, Joseph (Rhonda) Lundak; grandchildren, Alex Holmes, Bridgette (Arthur) Wilkins, Max Holmes, Vivian Peterson, Vincent Peterson, Addie Foote, Ethan Foote, Will Foote; great-granddaughter, Astraia Peterson; siblings, David (Jeanne) Lundak, Eugene (Sherry) Lundak. He was sent home his first day of kindergarten because he only spoke Bohemian. The next year he returned to kindergarten speaking English as his parents never spoke Bohemian to him again. Graduated from Cresco High School in 1958. John ran his family farm starting in 9th grade and farmed until he contracted Tuberculosis at the age of 21, he spent 10 months in a TB sanitorium until they removed ¼ of his lungs. He attended junior college for 2 years in Mason City, IA. After graduating he worked as a radio technician for the Great Northern Railroad for 6 months, then was hired by IBM in Rochester, MN where he worked as computer programmer for 30 years. John met Joanne (McCabe) in Rochester, MN. They married in January 1968. They started out their married life together in Rochester, MN, later moving to a country home in Pine Island, MN where they raised their 5 children. After retiring from IBM John returned to his roots working part time as a farm hand at Albert's Brothers Farm in Pine Island, MN. He also worked part time as a Taxi driver in Rochester. In retirement John spent many days driving to the Twin Cities to help with his grandchildren and children. In 2014, John and Joanne made the decision to move from their country home of 38 years to live closer to their children and grandchildren in the Twin Cities. They became active members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Brighton, MN and attended many events for their grandchildren. John was a quiet, hard-working, faithful man with integrity. He was involved in his church, Teams of Our Lady, Knights of Columbus, served as an election judge and never missed a caucus or election day to fulfill his civic duty to vote, loved reading Westerns and in his later years watching the old Westerns on TV, was a master cribbage player, he could fix and build anything, enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was dedicated to his wife and family and enjoyed having his family around more than anything, everything he did was to make life better for his family. Mass of Christian Burial to be held Saturday Oct. 22nd, at 11 am with visitation one hour prior at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 835 2nd Ave NW, New Brighton.
