John Archibald Macdonald

John Archibald Macdonald, 89 of Norwell and Newburyport, passed away peacefully October 28, 2025. Born in Boston, at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital, on August 14, 1936, he was the son of the late William A. and Mary A. (MacEachern) Macdonald.

Raised and educated in Westwood, John was the salutatorian of the Class of 1954. He went on to become a salesman, a truck driver for the Boston Globe, proud member of New England Teamsters and had patents in his name including one for new ways to insulate wires. In his spare time, he was a gourmet cook, a painter, an avid reader and proud Blue and Gold Officer for the United States Naval Academy. John was a man of faith, character and wisdom. He drew you in, lightened your day and made you smile. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family.

John was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Lorraine (Lake) Macdonald. Devoted father of Scott Macdonald and his wife Suzi, Glenn Macdonald and his wife Kerrie, all of Newburyport, and Keith Macdonald and his wife Sarah of Plymouth. Cherished grandfather of Cate, Gus, Stuart, Jack, Charlotte and Bridget. Dear brother of the late William Macdonald. John also leaves many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Angels Parish - St. Mary's, 392 Hanover St. Rte. 139, Hanover, on Saturday, November 8th at 10am. John and his wife Barbara will be laid to rest at Westwood Cemetery at a later date.
