John Francis Mahlmeister, age 70 of Lima, passed at 11:06 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. He was born September 12, 1954 in Lima, Ohio to the late Lucia Ann Mahlmeister Huffman and Richard Monroe Wilson.

John's life was defined by music, family, and a deep love for the simple joys in life. For more than 47 years, he shared his musical talent with the community, performing alongside many area musicians, including his own beloved group, Black Cat 5-formerly Spit Snake Johnson and the Rattlers. Known as a true legend in the local music scene, John was honored with induction into the Greater Allen County Blues Society Hall of Fame. Off the stage, John's devotion turned to his family, who meant the world to him. He was especially proud to be "Grandpa," always ready to join in on any adventure with his grandchildren and willing to do anything to bring a smile to their faces. A loyal Steelers fan, he cheered for his team with the same enthusiasm he brought to his music.

A proud U.S. Army Veteran, John was also an active member of the Lima Map of the Orioles Fraternal Order, the Eagles Lodge of Lima, and the Allen County Blues Society.

(Tony) Sheehan of Ada; Kay (Randy) Feathers of Alabama; Kathy Walker of Texas; Waneta Wilson of Columbus Grove; Pam Wilson of Lima; and his very special fur baby- Mystique.
