John Richard Mahoney passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025 at the age of 79 at his home in Newcastle, CA. He was born John Richard Mahoney in Sacramento, CA, on August 7, 1946, to Patrick and Betty Mahoney. They moved to Loomis in 1959 where he attended Loomis Grammar School and graduated from Del Oro High School in 1964.

After high school, John was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1966-1968. He was stationed in Neckarsulm, Germany, as a Colonel's driver. He was then in the standby reserve from 1971-1972. After he returned from the service, he met and married Teresa (Terri) Shoop, of Loomis, October 18, 1969.

A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Teresa (Terri) Mahoney, daughter Michele (Dave) Glover, daughter Jenifer (Pete) Minns. He leaves behind 4 beloved grandchildren: Mason Minns, Megan Glover, Nicole Glover and Taylor Minns, along with many other family members and special friends.

Throughout his 79 years, John enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, jeeping, quad trips and spending time with his family and special companion, Sadie, his dog.

He was happiest being at home on his property doing yard work and growing wonderful summer gardens with Terri and help from the grandkids. He created many games for his grandchildren including red-neck bowling, treasure hunts and a big slip and slide.

John worked in the lumber industry for most of his working years, including Rocklin Millworks and SierraPine Ltd. After retiring from SierraPine, he worked as a Specialist for the Placer County Air Pollution Control District then retired after 11 years in 2013.

John was a hard-working, dedicated, honest family man and dedicated friend and he will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

John was preceded in death by his parents Pat and Betty Mahoney, brother Bob Mahoney and precious granddaughter, Emily Elizabeth Glover.

A graveside service will be held at the pavilion in Newcastle Cemetery on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 1:00. A celebration of life will follow at the Blue Goose Event Center at 3550 Taylor Rd. in Loomis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice, 11815 Education St. Auburn, CA 95602 or to the charity of your choice.
