John Calhoun Marlowe, Jr. of Durham, North Carolina passed away peacefully on January 1st, 2025, after a brief stay at Duke Medical Center. A wonderful husband of 70 years to Emma Jean Crabtree Marlowe (the absolute love of his life). He was father to 3 sons (John, Mike, Doug), father-in-law (ilknur/Mike and Camille/Doug). John was born in Sumter, SC on May 25th, 1935, to the late John Calhoun Marlowe, Sr., and Reba Rabon Marlowe. John served in the NC National Guard with an Honorable Discharge in 1961 and retired from Brame Specialty in 2000 where he worked as a salesman for many years. John thoroughly loved being with his “boys” and played an active part in all aspects of their childhood: coaching/attending their sporting events, serving as President of PTA, President of Friendly City Civitan Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean, his mother and father, sister Betty Kierstead Sine, brothers-in-law, Phillip Crabtree, Tommy Carden, and Grady Wigginton, and daughter in law, Camille Marlowe. Left to cherish his memory are his loving sisters June Wigginton and Annette Brauchler (George), sister-in-law Edna Carden and brother-in-law Thomas Crabtree and Tony Sine as well as three adoring sons John C. Marlowe, III, Michael Marlowe (Ilknur), Douglas Marlowe (Mary). He had seven grandchildren: Michael Marlowe (Rachel), Jimmer Yuce (Tugba), Deniz Yuce and Nikolas Marlowe, Caroline Ciampa (Bobby), Will Marlowe (Emma), Madison Lischwe (John), Four great grandchildren, Ava and Richmond Ciampa, Dillon Marlowe, Ezra Yuce, uncle to Tina, Jill, Cindy, Brad, Sandy, Mark, Brian, Greg, Todd, Robin, John, Lisa, Lori, Kathy, Kelly. Visitation will be held at Hudson Funeral Home on Friday, January 10th, from 1:00-2:00 PM. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at Hudson Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. A private burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
