John Marsh Obituary

John Nelson Marsh, Sr., 78, of Albany, Georgia; passed away at his residence on Saturday, January 14, 2012. Mr. Marsh is survived by his wife, Carol Fisher Marsh, of Albany, Georgia; two sons, John N. Marsh Jr., with wife, Ashely of Opelika, AL and Steven Marsh, with wife, Kelly of Leesburg, Georgia; one sister, Jeanette Geeslin of Albany; four grandchildren, J. Nelson Marsh III, Joshua "Joshy" Marsh, Gabrielle "Gabby" Griffith and Lindsey Henderson; a sister in law, Louise Marsh of Albany; and several nieces and nephews. Before marrying his wife of 53 years, Carol Marsh, John served in the Air Force for four years during the end of the Korean War. Mr. Marsh was dedicated to serving the Lord and was a member of Putney United Methodist Church. Mr. Marsh was a highly respected electrical contractor. He established Marsh Electric in 1970. His youngest son, Steven Marsh, joined his father in 1992 and will proudly continue to operate his father's establishment. Mr. Marsh was also a Mason and member of Lodge #24 . In his past time, he loved fishing and flying remote control planes. He was a member of the Air Masters Model Airplane Club. Mr. Marsh valued time with his family. He was a mentor and hero to his sons and many other young men in the electrical trade. Visitation will be held Tuesday January 17, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00PM at Kimbrell-Stern. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 11:00AM also at Kimbrell-Stern. Mr. Marsh's oldest son, Rev. John N. Marsh, Jr. of CCI Christian Fellowship Church in Opelika, Alabama; and Rev. Cathy Green, of Putney United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Putney United Methodist Church 1301 Dorough Avenue, Albany, Georgia 31705 or Albany Community Hospice, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, Georgia 31707. A special "thank you" to Cindy Norton, Debbie Casey, and Ted Casey for all the wonderful care given during John's illness.
