With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John David Marshall, who departed from us on June 12, 2024. John was born on December 25, 1947, in Chicago to Katherine and Henry Marshall. His early years were shaped at Loyola Academy, followed by his collegiate journey at Nebraska University, where he embraced learning and personal growth.
John's sense of duty and patriotism led him to enlist in the Army, an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him values of honor and service. During his military tenure, John pursued higher education, earning both his Masters and CPA, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to knowledge and excellence.
On January 22, 1977, John married Cindy Henke, the love of his life. Their union was blessed with two children, David and Ginger, who brought immense joy and pride to John's life. John gained a daughter and son-in-law when David married his wife Patty Padilla and Ginger married Daniel Hyman. John's role as a grandfather to Sadie, Lennon, Katherine, Hailey, Audrianna, Sophia, and Benjamin was a source of boundless happiness. He said that if he knew how much he liked being a grandfather that he would have had grandchildren first!
John had a zest for life. He was an avid sports fan, golfer and bridge player. Beyond his accomplishments and hobbies, John Marshall will be remembered as a kind and generous soul who treated everyone he met with warmth and respect. He had a remarkable ability to strike up conversations with strangers, finding common ground and forging connections wherever he went. His genuine interest in others and his willingness to listen and support endeared him to countless friends and acquaintances.
In honoring John's memory, we celebrate a life lived with integrity, compassion, and a deep love for family and community. His legacy of kindness and openness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. John's presence will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
