John Mathieu

JOHN JAMES MATHIEU, 83, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, NJ. John was born in Brooklyn, NY and has resided in Jackson Twp., for the last 28 years.
John was a proud 28-year veteran of the United States Army. His service spanned from the Vietnam Era thru the end of the Gulf War Era. He received the Good Conduct Medal.
John was employed by the New York City Mass Transit Authority as Assistant General Superintendent for 25 years before retiring in 1997. John was a communicant of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6201, Jackson Twp., NJ.
John was predeceased by his parents, Roland Mathieu and Agnes Farrington; and his brothers, Frank Mathieu, Alfred Mathieu, and Robert Farrington. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie Jane Mathieu; his son, Brian Mathieu and his wife, Maria; his daughter, Lisa Mathieu- Barbato and her husband, Albert; his 6 grandchildren, Angel Mathieu, Patrick Barbato, Brian Mathieu Jr., Ryan Barbato, Maggie Mathieu, and Jackson Mathieu; his brothers, Paul Mathieu and his wife, Mary, and Gerard Mathieu and his wife, Tricia; and his nephews, James Mathieu and his wife, Lori, Eddie Mathieu, and Nathan Mathieu and his wife, Emily.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend John's visitation on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 4-9 PM at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. His Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 10 AM at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. Please gather at the church at 9:45 AM. A private cremation will follow.
