John Aveary Matthews was born in Opp, Alabama on September 29, 1973, to John and Mary Matthews.
A graduate from Laurel Hill High School in 1992, Aveary went on to continue his education at Okaloosa Walton Community College. He worked at Northwest Florida State College for twenty-seven years.
Aveary loved photography, playing sports, making furniture, repairing his cars and maintaining his home. He was a jack-of-all-trades. Aveary also enjoyed spending quality time with his son, Jaire Matthews, his family and friends. He was a hard worker and enjoyed helping others.
Aveary Matthews accepted Christ at a young age and was a long-time member of Phillip Chapel Baptist Church in Florala, Alabama.
He is survived by his son, Jaire Matthews of Miami, Florida; his parents, John and Mary Matthews of Campton, FL; his sister, Marcy Matthews-Bethea (Larry) of Pensacola, FL; and his aunts and uncles: great aunt, Bertha Jones (James), Larry Moore (Patricia), Judy Wright, Linda Walls, Bobby Moore, Rocky Moore (Edna), Richard Moore (Dorothy), Ferrin Moore (Carol), Darrell Moore (Brenda), Noma Bradberry, Jim Matthews, Doris Robertson, Fred Matthews (Joyce), and Ted Matthews (Bernadine); niece, Avianna Bethea; nephew, Larry "Tre" Bethea; and a host of cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Campton First Baptist Church, 7125 Senterfitt Road, Laurel Hill at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.Arrangements under the care of Davis-Watkins Crestview Memorial, Crestview, FL.

I pray that God will build a hedge of protection around Uncle John and Untie Mary and the rest of the family through this transition. I will miss Avery gentle heart that gorgeous smile with the dimples. I will miss the hugs and him saying what's up coz. SIP Avery you maybe gone but you will always hold a special place in my heart.
