John Lane Mays, 69, of Greenwood, LA, passed away on February 11, 2026, at LSU Ochsner Medical Center.
Lane is preceded in death by his parents, Miller Lawton Mays, Jr. and Mildred Smith Mays of Greenwood, LA; his brothers, Delwin Francis Mays of Shreveport, LA, Miller Lawton Mays, III of Warsaw, Poland; his son, Joseph Nicholas Taylor of Shreveport, LA; his sister-in-law, Rita Williams Mays of Longview, TX; and his son-in-law, Kelly Douglas Larremore of Perdido Key, FL.
Lane is survived by the love of his life and lifelong best friend and wife, Kimberly Morris Mays of Greenwood, LA; his three children, Jennifer Mays Larremore of Perdido Key, FL, Donald Ray “Trip” Taylor, III, and partner Taylor of Greenwood, LA, and Logan Bradlee Mays of Waskom, TX; and his brother, Foster Richard Mays of Longview, TX. He is also leaving behind a very special piece of his heart in his grandchildren: Kayden Meshell Bates and Kamryn Noelle Bates of Baton Rouge, LA, and Dakota Ray Taylor and Barrett Nicholas Taylor, of Greenwood, LA. Lane also leaves behind his father and mother-in-law, Rusty and Sue Morris of Logansport, LA; as well as his brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Tammy and Gary Wayne Timmons of Logansport, LA, Michael and Shreva Morris of Shreveport, LA, WC and Stacie Knight of Taneytown, MD, and Katarzyna Mays of Warsaw, Poland.
Lane spent his time here doing what he enjoyed most: attending Open Range Fellowship Church; spending time with his family and his friends; being an amazing husband, father, and grandfather; enjoying the outdoors through his love of hunting; taking trips with his wife and family; and loving his animals. He pursued his career as a Master Level Plumber. Later, he went on to build a business of his own, Lane Mays Plumbing, where he helped young men learn the trade and grow careers for themselves. He was a man of God who loved his church and did everything he could to serve Christ and lead by example. He was also a man with a huge heart. He was aware of his many blessings and never took for granted what the Lord had provided him. We would be remiss if we did not mention Lane’s sense of humor. Lane was the ultimate jokester and could have the whole room laughing within a matter of minutes.
