Born in Akron, Ohio January 1, 1947, John was raised in Cuyahoga Falls by his mother Ruth until she remarried to Johns stepfather, Marvin McConnell. They had two daughters together, Marsha and Denise
John showed an interest in sports and he excelled in track. His interest shifted to music and singing. With his buddy, John traveled West on Route 66 at age 21 to expand his horizons. He moved on to singing Baritone roles in various opera productions which made him happy. During a production of Romeo and Juliet, John met Tina, and they kept meeting in different opera productions over the years. John also served as Cantor for St. Francis de Sales Church for 11 years as well as singing with the choir.
In the 1980s, John trained as a real estate appraiser. John invited Tina to begin a business together, which lasted over 30 years. Friendship turned to love and they married in 1991. John became stepfather to Tinas children, Jennifer and Daniel, whom he loved.
John and Tina worked together, sang together, traveled and hosted an annual New Years Eve party combined with Johns birthday for about 30 years. He loved those parties and having all their friends celebrate with him. He enjoyed watching the Lakers, even when they lost and later took up golfing.
Later in life, John decided to search out his biological father and found he had a cousin out east and a half sister, Kay, in Ohio.
John was generous and fun loving and he never spoke ill of anyone, not that he didnt have an opinion but he was respectful of peoples differences and loved a good debate. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of John, please visit our Tree Store.
