It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my beloved father, John Mortimer McCown III, "Johnny", who left this world surrounded by his loving family. His final moments were filled with warmth, love, and the presence of those who cherished him most.
A true lover of the water, my dad found joy in surfing at the beach, water skiing, swimming, and hanging out by the shore were where he was happiest. When not by the water, he was a natural tinkerer, spending time working on car engines in his younger years and later teaching me all about car maintenance. Once IBM introduced the PC, he became fascinated with building, taking apart, and rebuilding computers. He also had a passion for building intricate model trains, creating elaborate scenery that brought his miniature worlds to life.
Some of my fondest memories with my dad include our annual summer trips to Disney, beach vacations, adventures at the Alligator Farm, swimming at the springs, biking, going to parks, scenic road trips to the Tennessee mountains, and exploring the local museums. These moments, filled with laughter and love, are treasures I will hold in my heart forever.
He leaves behind his devoted daughter, Kelly Little, son-in-law, Ken Little, and two beloved granddaughters, Lyndsey and Courtney, who will continue to honor his memory and carry forward his love for adventure, creativity, and family.
Dad, you will be deeply missed, but your love and legacy will live on in our hearts forever.
A memorial service will be held graveside on Wednesday, February 5th, 2:00 pm at Forest Meadow Cemetery, 4100 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32606.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his honor and memory to the Humane Society of North Central FL. My Dad was a devoted animal lover and chose to adopt his furry companions.
