John McDevitt (Jack) entered eternal life peacefully on August 26, 2024, at Little Flower Manor with his beloved wife Mary McDevitt of 67 years and family by his side.
Jack was born to his parents in Philadelphia, PA where he was raised with his 5 siblings and 3 stepbrothers. He served in the military during the Korean war and when he returned, he married the love of his life Mary in 1957. He worked for 30+ years as a steel worker and raised their 5 children in Southwest Philadelphia on the best street with neighbors that were family. He spent his early retirement years with his wife in Cape May where he stayed busy building in his shed before moving to Essington for the past 20 years. He especially loved his cars and traveling with his wife. Jack was a simple man who genuinely loved his family and enjoyed being in their company. He was everyone's Poppy, and he was truly loved.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary, beloved daughter Kathleen Canzanese (Anthony), and beloved son William McDevitt (Amy), 8 grandchildren; Lyndsey Canzanese (Jimmy), Lacey O'Hara (Joseph), Ted Bilger (Tannis), William McDevitt Jr. (Samantha), Charlie McDevitt (Brookelle), Scott Daley, Albert McDevitt, and Lisa McDevitt. He has many great-grandchildren but had a special bond with Cole, Brady, Brynn, and Joey. The most recent additions of his great-grandchildren are William III and Arabelle. He has many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws (Bert) and he had great friends that were like family, especially Joe and Phyllis Wagner of 75 years. He is predeceased by three of his sons, John Daley, Dennis Daley, and Albert McDevitt and his three grandchildren John Daley Jr, Jimmy Daley, and Kristen McDevitt.
The family would like to specifically thank the staff at Little Flower Manor who became family and took amazing care of their Poppy in the final years of his life.
Relatives and family are invited to his Visitation Friday, September 6, 2024 9:30am at the Chapel of Little Flower Manor, 1201 Springfield Rd Darby, PA 19023 and to his Funeral Mass 11:00am in the Chapel. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Little Flower Manor.
