John was proceeded in death by his wife and best friend Mary of 55 years. John and Mary were married at the Sims Ranch outside of Alpine, TX in 1965, parents C. A. and Evalee McFadin of Dryden, Brother’s Bud of Victoria and Ronnie of Del Rio.
John is survived by his son Bert McFadin and his wife Shelley of Glen Rose, Texas and son Roy McFadin of D’Hanis. Grandchildren Wayne, Shilah, Cooper and fiancé Courtney, Gage and wife Bailey, Natalie and Franco and their son Isaiah, Kallie and Kinslie. Sisters Patsy Tipton formerly of San Angelo, Theresa Anderson of Aspermont and several nieces and nephews.
John graduated from Iraan High School in 1964 where he played football all four years. In 1970 he graduated from Sul Ross with a bachelor’s degree. He taught school and coached in Comstock, Sanderson, Brady, and Bryson. After retiring from teaching, he was a ranch manager at Tierra Linda Ranch at Kerrville for eight years.
After his wife Mary was buried in Alpine, John moved there to be near her. John became a member of the First Baptist Church of Alpine.
A special thanks to his physician Dr. Nitschmann, therapist Laura Snodgrass, and friends Jerry and MaryBelle Castellano, Don and Sherri McGinnis, and Johnny Carpenter all of Alpine, Texas.
A visitation will take place at Alpine Memorial Funeral Home located at 209 W. Sul Ross Avenue in Alpine, Texas on Friday, January 16, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM. The following day, Saturday, January 17, 2026, a graveside service will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Alpine beginning at 2:00 PM.
