John Rodney McGhee Sr “Rod”, 81, of Havertown, PA and Wildwood Crest, NJ died suddenly on July 17, 2023 at his favorite place to be, his home in Wildwood Crest. Rod was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Dorothy (Godfrey). Rod was born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia, graduated from West Catholic High School, and attended LaSalle University. During his time in college, he met the love of his life Dottie, and soon after they married. They moved from Guyer Ave., SW Philadelphia to Olympic Ave., in Havertown. They lived there with their growing family for over 40 years. Rod and his family spent many summers making fond memories in Sea Isle City, NJ. Rod worked at several large mechanical companies in the Philadelphia area in Sales Management and Business Development. He was well respected in the industry.

He loved spending as much time as possible in Wildwood Crest and traveling with his loving partner Mary Jane Butler. He was a member of The Elks in North Wildwood and a volunteer at Lazarus House Ministries in Wildwood. He was a proud father and even prouder grandfather. Nothing gave him more pleasure than being updated on one of his grandchildren’s latest achievements, endeavors or just exchanging a quick text. Rod was known for his quick wittiness, sarcasm, and his ability to carry on a conversation with just about anybody.

He is survived by his partner of over 16 years, Mary Jane Butler, children Roddy Jr., Kevin, Amy Santora (Jamie), Mark (Andrea) and Gregg (Alberto), and grandchildren Ryan, Alli, Trevor, Tyler, Kyra, Hana, Max and his four-legged friend Gypsy.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Tuesday July 25, 2023 from 5pm-8pm, and Wednesday July 26, 2023 at 10am, at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA. His Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home chapel at 11:00am. Interment will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Rod’s name to Lazarus House Ministries, P.O. Box 1792, Wildwood NJ 08260 or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA  22116-7023,  https://diabetes.org/
