Robert Wade McGhee, Sr., affectionately known as Bobby, age 95, of New Bern, NC passed away on January 16, 2026, at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.
Bobby was a man of deep faith whose life was firmly rooted in his love for the Lord and his church. A devoted member of Spring Hope Free Will Baptist Church, his church family was an important and cherished part of his life.
He found great joy in farming and gardening and took pride in keeping his yard neatly mowed, a simple pleasure that reflected his strong work ethic and appreciation for God’s creation. He loved his family and treasured every moment spent with them. His gentle presence, steady wisdom, witty sarcasm, and quiet love will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary McGhee; brother, Dupree McGhee; sons, Joseph F. McGhee, and Robert W. McGhee, Jr.; and most recently his beloved wife, Ruth “Ruthie” McGhee, who passed away only ten days before him. Their reunion brings comfort to those left behind.
He is survived by his daughter, Lillian Buttitta and husband, Chris; son, David Earl McGhee and wife, Angie; daughter-in-law, Linda Davidson; six grandchildren, James Williamson (Crystal), Justin Buttitta (Melinda), Abigail Hester (Matt), Ashley McGhee (Michael), Jason McGhee, and Eric McGhee; four step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 20th at 3:00 p.m. at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel. Private interment will be at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spring Hope Free Will Baptist Church, 100 Spring Hope Church Rd., New Bern, NC 28560, honoring Bobby’s lifelong devotion to his faith and church.
